Apple iPhone 14 Vs. iPhone 13: Cinematic Mode Explained By A Filmmaker

A filmmaker has indicated that among the improvements made to the iPhone 14, Apple has incorporated an enhanced cinematic mode that gives some new features. Regarding design modifications, the iPhone 14 is essentially the same as the iPhone 13. The drastic redesign doesn’t become apparent until the iPhone 14 Pro series.

All of these smartphones include the new Cinematic mode, even if the standard iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Pro series vary from one another. The software-enabled Cinematic mode, which was first unveiled with the iPhone 13 last year, provides a narrow depth of focus to video footage.

However, the wonderful thing about Cinematic mode is that users may adjust the focus even after the video clip has been recorded since it is done via software.

Apple has included a new 4k 24FPS cinematic option for both the front and back cameras with the iPhone 14 series. The YouTube channel iPhonegraphers contrasted the Cinematic mode of the iPhone 14 Pro Max with the iPhone 13 Pro Max in order to evaluate the update in real-world situations. The YouTuber has a channel devoted to filmmaking and has shot high-quality iPhone video in the past.

Camera Improvement Between Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro Max

Using their respective 1x lenses, the YouTuber initially contrasted the iPhone 14 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro Max’s Cinematic mode in 1080p 30FPS. He tested the depth of focus and white balance on both iPhones tilting in an indoor lightning environment first. Despite the fact that there wasn’t much of a difference between the two in the video, the iPhone 14 Pro Max triumphed when the YouTuber fixed focus on the item.

The filmmaker said that the cinematic mode video from both iPhones taken with the 3x lens was comparable. He did, however, also note that in this instance the iPhone 14 Pro Max was marginally superior. The YouTuber moved his setup outside for the second test, and both phones functioned identically in the ambient light. In this instance, however, the iPhone 13 Pro Max altered focus in a different way than the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The YouTuber discovered that the iPhone 14 Pro Max’s camera focus was superior to that of its predecessor after doing more tests.

The YouTuber also experimented with the iPhone 14 series-only 4K 24FPS Cinematic mode later in the video. The new iPhone 14 Cinematic mode is a great tool for those who wish to capture sharp edges with little movement.

The camera struggled to capture hair edges, fluffier foliage, and other “busy” shooting situations. Similarly, the YouTuber said that while using the 4k 24FPS on the iPhone 14 Pro Max, the 3x lens captured less crisp video than the 1x. Finally, he extolled the virtues of the selfie camera’s 4K cinematic mode, stating, “This stuff looks really really good.” For those who have an interest in photography, don’t forget to visit the creator’s YouTube channel, where he has included a number of further experiments using the Cinematic mode.
